Michael Goldwasser

Michael Goldwasser, also known as Michael G, is an American record producer, songwriter, and musician based in New York City. As co-founder and president of Easy Star Records, he is known for producing albums for the reggae group Easy Star All-Stars, of which he is the only constant member. Working within genres such as reggae, dub music, R&B, pop, and "some rock music,"〔 he has also produced for albums for artists such as Rebelution, Corey Harris, and The Hip Abduction. In 2011 he was executive producer for ''Ways & Means'' by The Green, which was named Best Reggae Album of 2011 at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. In total Goldwasser has produced 10 albums that have charted at No. 1 on the Top Reggae Albums chart. In January 2015, Goldwasser announced he'd completed production on his upcoming album ''Goldswagger,'' described as "a collection of his original R&B/soul/funk compositions."〔
==Early life and education==
Michael Goldwasser was born in West Virginia, moving to New York City at the age of seven.〔 Both his parents were active in Judaism, with his father a Rabbi, and Goldwasser recollects they helped inspire his early interest in "social justice issues,"〔 as well as diverse musical genres such as jazz. Goldwasser's parents claim "he began writing songs soon after he learned to talk,"〔 and he began learning guitar informally around age thirteen.〔 He became focused on reggae around age fourteen,〔 and a year later was performing in clubs in New York City with his band The Feds.〔 His father would frequently drove him to shows when he couldn't take his guitar on the subway.〔 After graduating from Hunter College High School in New York City, Goldwasser began working as a freelance musician, songwriter, and record producer in 1989.〔 In college at Columbia University he majored in urban studies,〔 focusing on topics such as sociology and urban planning.〔 He also spent two years hosting a Columbia University radio show on WKCR,〔 and formed the R&B group Special Request.〔
